Türk folklorunun bir dalıdır.
Türk halkı arasında yaşayan ve yaratıcıları genellikle bilinmeyen, bu nedenle de tümüyle halkın malı olmuş müziksel verilerdir. En önemli nitelikleri toplumun malı oluşları ve toplumun duygularını taşımalarıdır.
Halk ezgileri, kaynaklarının böyle bir özellik taşıması nedeniyle her eser gibi kişisel olsalar da zamanla yaratıcılarının unutulmaları ile halkın malı olurlar. Farklı kişilerin ve genelde toplumun dilinde dolaşarak ilk yaradılışlarındaki bireyselliklerini yitirirler ve şekil, hatta konu dahi değiştirirler. Buna “folklorik oluşum” ya da “anonimleşme” denilir. “Folklorik oluşum” evresini tamamlayan halk ezgilerimiz “Türk Halk Müziği”ni meydana getirirler.
Türk Müziği Türleri:
Türk müziği, iki ana başlık altında toplanır. Bunlardan birincisi “Türk Dünyası Müziği” diğeri de “Türk İnanç Müziği” olarak isimlendirilmektedir. Her iki ana başlığa ait olan alt türler de bulunmaktadır.
“Türk Dünyası Müziği”nin alt türleri şunlardır:
1. Türk Halk Müziği
2. Türk Sanat Müziği
3. Türk Askeri Müziği
a. Türk Mehter Müziği
b. Türk Bando Müziği
4. Türk Eğlence Müziği
5. Türk Çağdaş Müziği
“Türk İnançsal Müziği” ise iki alt türde incelenebilir:
1. Türk Cami Müziği
2. Türk Tasavvuf Müziği
a. Türk Tasavvufi Sanat Müziği
b. Türk Tasavvufi Halk Müziği
